The global decline in biodiversity is a major contemporary challenge. Prompted by the many voices in the scientific community lamenting a substantial human-induced loss of species, the concern was brought onto the global political agenda which resulted in the adoption of multiple multilateral environmental agreements to address this challenge, like the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES). These agreements feed a plethora of subordinated national implementation processes in the respective signatory countries that, qua intention, should mainstream objectives of biodiversity conservation...
