Special issue “Marine Governance of European Seas"
ENP researchers (Astrid Hendriksen, Judith van Leeuwen and Jan van Tatenhove) had major contributions to the special issue “Marine Governance of European Seas” in the December issue 2014 of Marine policy as an outcome of the EU FP7project: “Options for Delivering Ecosystem-based Marine Management” (ODEMM).
The papers in this special issue aimed to provide an overall understanding from a social scientific and governance perspective of the application of the ecosystem approach to marine management to European regional seas both across sectors, as well as across regions and EU member states. Four marine (sub-)regions in Europe have been covered, the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea and the North East Atlantic Ocean. Stakeholder opinions/attitudes have been identified and integrated in creating alternative governance institutions directed towards implementation of the ecosystem approach to marine management at the regional level.
