Students from Wageningen compile international student cookbook

Gepubliceerd op

It is subtitled The best recipes for your student life and contains forty guaranteed successful recipes suggested by Wageningen students from around the world. This new cookbook sets out recipes for dishes such as saoto soup, marinated chicken with coconut rice, buckwheat with ceps and the Dutch classic ‘bare bottoms in the grass’, and helps students to show off their cooking prowess for standard dishes or meals for special occasions. The international cookbook Food for Students will hit the shelves on Tuesday 2 September.

A lot of students eat together, either in fixed groups or in changing groups of study or housemates, committee members or members of student or study associations. Eating is a social happening and it can be quite a challenge for the student responsible to serve up a well-balanced, tasty and healthy meal. But student chefs sometimes need to make an impression, on a first date or for a Christmas dinner for example, when table companions will first encounter the fragrances and flavours of new ingredients and combinations.

The new cookbook contains recipes for groups, for summer barbecues, home-alone meals or presentation meals to showcase a sporting achievement or exam. The cookbook is written in English and gives alternatives for ingredients that may be difficult to find in the Netherlands. For example, if you can’t find aniseed, use ‘gestampte muisjes’. It also gives advice about cooking techniques, as many foreign students are not familiar with the side-effects of some of the dishes. For example, it’s probably a good idea to open the windows before you try the Dutch recipe for pancakes to stop your entire house smelling of pancakes.

The student cookbook contains recipes for the best culinary creations suggested by students and graduates. They sent in their favourite recipes, and the Wageningen culinary production team added clear instructions and enticing photos. Anyone who makes a recipe from the book is asked to take a photo of their efforts and post it on Twitter with #f4sl.

Food for Students - The best recipes for your student life also contains will go on sale via the webshop for € 14.95.
