Visit of Bangladesh Ambassador to Wageningen

On 26 February, his Excellency, mr. Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, visited Wageningen UR, accompanied by his wife Nasrin, herself an expert on health and nutrition.

Prof.dr. Eddy Moors, Head of the Climate Change and Adaptive Land and Water Management Group and dr. Arjo Rothuis, Account Manager Asia, gave an overview of work of Wageningen UR in Bangladesh, like for instance the contribution to the Bangladesh Delta Plan and the collaboration with the Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) for a new MSc on Climate Change related to Water and Environment. Also the innovative approach of the Ecobas project, to create coastal protection and income opportunities through oyster reefs, were presented.

Later on, the ambassador met with PhD and MSc students from Bangladesh and had interesting discussions with them. The ambassador stressed the importance of education and appreciated collaboration with Wageningen UR.

‘Wageningen UR is a place of learning, presenting the world cutting edge technology and modern ideas for the foreseeable future’, mr. Belal wrote in his letter of 27 February, thanking the organizers of the visit.
