To encourage and reward successful sustainable entrepreneurship, the Wageningen University Fund will present the 2015 Mansholt Business Award for Sustainable Entrepreneurship (M-BASE) in September of this year. M-BASE is awarded to enterprising Wageningen University alumni and affiliated Wageningen UR entrepreneurs who have a long-lasting societal impact. Candidates for the entrepreneurship award can be nominated until 4 July.
The Wageningen University Fund finances activities that stimulate excellent education and research and help to shape the academic development of students. These activities fall outside the realm of traditional financing and reinforce the unique character of Wageningen University. The WUF presents its sustainable entrepreneurship award, which includes a €25,000 prize, once every three years.
The award is reserved for successful entrepreneurs who manage their companies with enthusiasm and sustainability. The guidelines for corporate social responsibility established by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) form the basis of this award. These guidelines focus on such issues as chain responsibility, human rights, child labour, and the environment. The award will be presented on Monday 7 September during the opening of the academic year on the Wageningen Campus.
Everyone is invited to submit their nominees for the Mansholt Business Award in the form of enterprising alumni and affiliated Wageningen UR companies. Entrepreneurs can also nominate themselves. In addition to the guidelines for sustainable entrepreneurship established by the OECD, the jury will focus on promoting employment, contributing to knowledge sharing, the innovative use of knowledge, and the social influence and relevance for the Wageningen UR domain. The jury will be chaired by Jan Karel Mak, chair of the Wageningen University Fund and president of the Executive Board at Deerns Groep BV.
