The annual meeting of the Carbohydrate Competence Center (CCC) was held on April 21st 2016.

It has become a tradition to award prizes for the best poster and presentation during the annual CCC-symposium. This year the "Rudy Rabbinge Award for the best poster" went to Piet van der Zaal, a PhD-student at Biobased Chemistry and Technology.

The poster is entitled: "Isomalto/Malto-polysaccharide: a novel polysaccharide from starch"

Piet is working on the production and characterization of Isomalto/Malto-Polysaccharides (IMMPs). These novel polysaccharides are produced through enzymatic modification of starch with the 4,6-alpha-glucanotransferase (GtfB) enzyme. The project is part of the Carbohydrate Competence Center program (CCC-B) and is jointly funded by Avebe and TKI.
The "Rudy Rabbinge Award for the best presentation" went to Bianca Martens a PhD student at Food Chemistry.

Aside from the prizes it was a very interesting day, with presentations on many different topics in the carbohydrate field. This made for a lot of discussions during the coffee breaks.

The Carbohydrate Competence Center aims to generate and develop high-quality knowledge in the field of carbohydrates, with the aim of stimulating innovation and contributing to a healthier and more sustainable society.
