About Facing Racism

The death of George Floyd unfolded in front of our eyes for a total of 8 minutes and 46 seconds. It quickly sparked protests against police brutality and a lack of police accountability around the United States and, later, internationally. At his memorial, the lawyer of George Floyd said that not the Coronavirus, but another pandemic caused his death: 'The pandemic of racism and discrimination.'

The popularity of the notion of race also fuels its misunderstandings. General misconceptions assume that racism is the result of stereotypes, that racism is the problem of working class people or that racism now belongs to the past. How can we develop a more anthropological understanding of race, racism and racialization?
