SG - Shadow Game

In the acclaimed documentary Shadow Game, unaccompanied minor refugees are followed in an impressive cinematographic story as they make their way across Europe’s borders. In what has become an increasingly more difficult route to their final destinations, these children on the verge of adulthood navigate the obstacles and deterrents in a dangerous game as they search for belonging, identity and security. Playing to win, they guide us through their ‘coming of age’ odyssey en route to a new life.

This screening in Impulse is followed by an opportunity to discuss with the documentary makers and a special guest protagonist featured in the film.

About Eefje Blankevoort & Els van Driel

Els and Eefje are documentary filmmakers and much more! Eefje Blankevoort, as one of the founders of Prospektor production house (where collaborations between critical and creative spirits have resulted in a rich history of meaningful projects, both audio en visual) has found in Els van Driel a kindred spirit when it comes to harnessing film to document urgent social issues.

They have known each other since their student days at the Kriterion film theatre in Amsterdam. It soon became clear that their motives and ideals would be a deeply rooted binding factor. Their cinematographic documentation of some of the most desperate scenes on the European continent has not gone unnoticed. They collaborated on ‘De Asielzoekmachine’ (the Asylum Search Engine) and ‘The Deal’ and the acclaimed documentary ‘Shadow Game’. Both of them loves in-depth research and they believe the way we handle refugees to be the topic of our times.
