Are you planning to travel abroad in the context of your studies at Wageningen University & Research? You need permission from WUR for international trips.
Are you planning to travel abroad in the context of your studies at Wageningen University & Research? You need permission from WUR for your travel abroad.
This permission is based, among other things, on the travel advice of the Dutch government:
- Travel to green or yellow areas is allowed.
- In principle, travel to orange areas is not allowed. In certain individual cases, an exception can be made.
- Travel to red areas is not allowed.
You can find more detailed information below.
Permission ‘green’ areas
Study-related travel to green areas is permitted.
Electives are allowed if you take them as an exchange student in the context of an exchange programme of Wageningen University, or as a 'free mover' with the permission of your Examining Board.
Permission ‘yellow’ areas
Study-related travel to yellow areas is permitted. You have to request permission before you travel to a yellow area. Please, complete the Travel Request (Yellow Areas).
Electives are only allowed in the context of an exchange programme. As an exchange student, you implicitly have permission through the selection letter by the Exchange Coordinator and do not need to submit a travel request for yellow areas.
Permission ‘orange’ areas
Study-related travel to orange areas is not permitted, but there are some exceptions:
- Permanent exception: A hardship clause for orange areas applies to students participating in an MSc Disaster Studies internship or thesis. For them an exception may be made.
You may only travel to an orange area after successful completion of the permission procedure. The following conditions apply:
You always have to request permission before you travel to an orange area. Please, download and complete the permission form Travel Request Thesis/Internship (Orange areas). For all student travel to code orange areas, unanimous, positive advice from the Advisory Committee (‘student triarchy’) is required. If your request is rejected, you cannot object to it.
If the colour code changes from orange to red before your departure, you are not allowed to leave. WUR will not reimburse the expenses incurred. This also applies if you do not or no longer fulfil the conditions applicable to the temporary exception for any other reason on the departure date.
Registration and preparation
It is essential to register your stay abroad in Osiris before you leave, so that we know where you are staying and how to reach you for help in case of emergency.
After registering and filling out your contact information in Osiris, you are (in combination with your Dutch medical insurance) sufficiently covered by the collective travel insurance of WUR for the study-related part of your foreign travel (provided you were granted permission to travel). WUR’s collective travel insurance does not cover the costs for quarantine when you are not infected. After registration you receive information on how to contact WUR in case of an emergency.
On the Preparation page you can find more information about the registration and preparation for your travel abroad, including mandatory safety training.
The approval procedure may take some time, be sure you start with this well in advance!
Do you travel without permission? Then your travel abroad is considered a private activity at your own risk and financial responsibility, and you will not receive any credits.
