Verkenning van mogelijkheden om milieu impact van keurmerken te onderzoeken
Within a global transition towards sustainable food systems, sustainability labels are often used to distinguish conventional ways of production (no labels) from sustainable ways of production (various labels). The downside of the large number of labels currently on the market is that consumers no longer know which labels use strict sustainability requirements.
Also for other stakeholders, including the government, the extent to which one label is better for the environment than another is not obvious. It is therefore important to explore the possibilities of assessing the environmental impact of labels present on the Dutch market and to compare environmental impact of products produced with and without labelling schemes. In this research various possibilities in assessing the environmental impact of different labels is to be studied on the basis of primary (farm data and certification scheme requirements) and secondary data (literature, tools).
