Statistically sound demersal sampling
The new Regional Database and Estimation System (RDBES), currently developed by ICES is aiming to replace both RDB and Intercatch in the near future. The purpose of this database is to produce statistical estimates of quantities of interest from sample data and increase the data quality, allow for documentation and ensure approved estimation methods. It is, therefore, expected that the sampling scheme of the collected data will reflect a statistically sound process to be able to accommodate statistical estimates for the production of fisheries management advice. The current multi-stage Demersal Market Sampling, although in line with the DCF regulation, is not well documented for how the sampling procedure is conducted, and is, sometimes, ad-hoc (or quota) sampling. Phasing out of Intercatch database by 2022 there is growing concern of the usage of the sampling data collected under a non-probabilistic framework.
De DCF en visbestand toestandsbeoordeling evolueert naar een nieuw regionaal database- en schattingssysteem (RDBES), waar een probabilistisch gebaseerde bemonsteringsprocedure met een goede documentatie voor nodig is. De huidige meer-fase demersale marktbemonstering, hoewel in overeenstemming met de DCF-verordening, is niet goed gedocumenteerd voor de manier waarop de bemonsteringsprocedure moet worden uitgevoerd, en is soms een ad-hoc bemonstering.
Dit project heeft als doel:
- het huidige statistische steekproefontwerp te verbeteren,
- documentatie van de procedure te verstrekken, en
- snelle kwaliteitscontrole te genereren.
Het is een multidisciplinaire samenwerking tussen vissers, waarnemers, data submitter en statisticus. De resultaten van dit onderzoek kunnen de kwaliteit en efficiëntie van de gegevensverzameling verbeteren en de komende jaren een soepele overgang naar RDBES bieden.
