Area balance greenhouse gases

In tropical forest regions, the assessment of greenhouse gas emissions is present in principle. Much data is available, but the current assessment system is not sufficiently developed to provide insight into future developments and important choices regarding the REDD-mechanism (Reducing Emissions forum Deforestation and Degradation).

Regional stakeholders that are involved in the climate negotiations, have a strong need to get insight into the effects of the policy concerning the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the so-called mitigation policy.

In tropical forest regions such as the Congo- and Amazon basin, many data-sets have been built op that are not systematically applied yet in quantifying the regional carbon balances or in predicting possible developments in the 21st century.

The goal of this project is to demonstrate what integral carbon balances look like in the pressurized Congo basin, and how this may change in the coming century.
