The discussion about conservation and the agri-environment schemes in which farmers implement conservation measures has been going on for years. Hitherto no quantitative interdisciplinary study into the effectiveness of agricultural conservation has been carried out.
This project aims to find out which factors (ecological, landscape and socio-economic) determine the results of agri-environment schemes concerning ditch banks in peat grasslands.
This project will develop a benchmarking tool that compares the performances of different actors in the field of agricultural conservation and provides customized feedback. It will address not only scientific factors such as the duration of the conservation measures, landscape and local factors, but also socio-economic factors such as motivation and dedication. This tool should increase the involvement of participants in agri-environment schemes and enhance the effectiveness of agri-environment schemes.
