India is implementing the National Dairy Plan which aims to double milk production in the country between 2012 and 2017. NDDB has been appointed as the lead agency to implement the NDP. Senior project staff of NBBD in charge of projects improving the feeding and genetic base of the dairy sector in India are trained by Wageningen University in collaboration with various private companies from the dairy sector in the Netherlands.
The training programmes for improved feeding and genetic improvement are tailored to challenge the participants and develop their theoretical insights and their practical skills. Each training starts with a theoretical discussion of the subject. In this theoretical discussion the latest scientific insights are provided and translated into what it means for practical application. The training is made practical by conducting experiments, site visits to research facilities or relevant businesses. The training programmes are interactive and it is possible to discuss actual cases or questions. Besides lectures and site visits in the programmes, time is allocated for discussion and case work.
