The food chain produces a significant proportion of the greenhouse gas emissions in the world. Not only by direct and indirect (fossil) energy consumption, but also by the emission of methane and nitrous oxide. Because the agricultural sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, the Ministry made agreements with the agricultural sector on reducing the fossil energy use and the greenhouse gas emission of methane and nitrous oxide.
Global warming by the emission of greenhouse gases and the consequentially changing climate is a major social problem. Therefore, in recent years, limiting the impact of climate change is an important priority in the policy of the government. The goal of this project is threefold. 1) To develop on the basis of already available knowledge climate neutral goals for companies in the arable farming, field vegetables, poultry and pig farming. 2) Communication of new current knowledge to policy makers and defining new subjects for future research. 3) Stimulation of stakeholders to apply innovative and effective climate neutral strategies and methods.
