Bees provide an important ecosystem function: pollination. They play an important role in the production of food (vegetables, fruits, nuts, etc.) and the seeding of wild plants. The survival of many bee species is threatened by a quantitative and qualitative degradation of habitat and fragmentation.
This project aims to explore the potential of (industrial) and existing industrial infrastructure such as roads and noise barriers on highways as a habitat for wild bees and other pollinating insects. An important element is to seek a way in which planning and management with minimal resources can make them suitable for bees.
A second goal is to make businesses and employees aware of the importance of pollination as an ecosystem service. Simple construction actions can be taken over by workers and implemented in their immediate environment.
