Crambe is an oil crop for non-food applications. The goal of this project is to develop crambe to a platform for the production of industrial resources such as special fatty acids, fatty alcohols and wax esters adapted to the demand for industrial oil which means a very high content of specific triglycerides wax esters, long-chain fatty acids and alcohols.
Crambe seed also includes a valuable protein component that can be used as animal feed or as a raw material for polymers. Unfortunately, this seed flour contains glucosinolates that makes the purification of the proteins costly. Therefore, the development of non-genetically modified varieties, from molecular mutation refinement, containing verly little glucosinolates and little polyunsatured fatty acids, is also an aim of this project.
