Cultivation above the ground: arboriculure

The current production systems for the arboriculture cannot meet the stringent future standards for water quality regarding the emission of minerals and plant protection products. This is especially difficult on dry sandy soils.

The goal of this project is to develop new systems for the cultivation of nursery crops with minimal emission of pesticides and nutrients in order to meet the water quality standards.

At least two new ‘cultivation above the ground’ systems  (gutter system and pot-in-pot system) will be developed by the end of 2013. These systems must be economically viable and must have a low emission of pesticides and nutrients. The project will be successful when the new systems are implemented in at least five to ten companies.
