Cultivation of algae using CO2 and residual heat from cogeneration installations

To make bioenergy more sustainable and profitable linking of processes, where residues of one process are used as raw materials for another process, might be a useful development.

An example is the use of digestate from co-fermentation installations as a mineral resource for the cultivation of algae using CO2 and residual heat from cogeneration installations. By cultivating algae this way, a valorisation of biomass chains will be created, leading to high quality and protein rich raw materials that can be extracted from the cultured algae. The goal of this project is to explore the possibilities and limitations of the above mentioned application.
