In order to improve the scientific soil information system (BIS) it is necessary that information can be converted efficiently and reproducibly and is available in the form of maps.
The scientific soil information system (BIS) is an important source of data concerning soil. There is, however, a discrepancy between the available data in the BIS and the requested information on which the policy of the government has to be attuned. The available data consists of observations of soil layers of a limited number of locations, while the requested information which can be derived from these observations has to be available in the form of maps. Until now this information is mostly obtained ad hoc in the light of a research project. This approach is not always as efficient or reproducible, on top of the fact that information on the quality of the map is usually absent. The aim of this project is to develop a system which can be used to efficiently and reproducibly convert data from the BIS to information relevant to policymakers in the form of maps of which the quality is quantified.
