Epigenetic regulation shoot meristem

An important problem in the production of seedlings of tomato and cabbage plants is the premature termination of the growth of the shoot.

This phenomenon has a genetic basis, because there are differences between cultivars in susceptibility to the occurrence of blind plants under conditions of low light or cold during germination. Especially seedlings are sensitive, depending on the period of the year when the plants are grown. The origin of the genetic regulation and the influence of environmental factors is not yet known.

The objective of this research is to unravel the underlying (epi) genetic factors involved in shoot meristem differentiation and the occurrence of shoot free seedlings in susceptible varieties of tomato and cabbage plants under the influence of abiotic stress.
