Scaling up innovation for the purpose of a sustainable development of agriculture isn’t moving as quickly as desired. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) provides new opportunities for reaching, informing and supporting agricultural entrepreneurs regarding innovation trajectories.
A number of examples of such ICT initiatives are already known in the European Union. For example an Interactive Technology Portal of High Tech Europe, which is a smart search engine for small and medium enterprises to get access to recent scientific information. Dutch organisations in the agricultural sector like LTO and FrieslandCampina are experimenting with the use of an interactive ICT learning environment in order to reach large groups of agricultural entrepreneurs for the benefit of innovation. The goal of this project is to identify ICT initiatives that currently take place, their contribution to the objective of motivating large groups of farmers and to what extent these web environments improve the collaboration between farmers, scientists and consultants when it comes to innovation.
