In this project, we study if lowering the stocking density during rearing and/or laying has a positive effect on broiler breeder mating behaviour, and thus also on skin and feather damage in the hens.
It is foreseen that there will be a ban on mutilations from 01-09-2011 onwards. To keep broiler breeders without mutliations, there is a need to develop housing or management systems that minimise damaging mating behaviour in broiler breeders.
Expected result: to know if lowering the stocking density has a positive effect on damaging mating behaviour in broiler breeders (december 2010).
Products: two scientific publications (drafts available december 2010) and two publications in the popular press (december 2010).
Effect van bezettingsdichtheid op (de ontwikkeling van) het paargedrag en de technische resultaten bij vleeskuikenouderdieren = Effect of stocking density on (the development of) sexual behaviour and technical performance in broiler breeds
