In 2011, the project “objective standards fish welfare and quality assurance as a base for the Better Life concept” ended. This project developed welfare standards for the citation, transportation and slaghter of the African catfish, Claresse, Nile tilapia and turbot.
For the implementation of this “Better Life’ concept it is still needed to carry out some research. Therefore, the goal of this project is to test these welfare standards and welfare indicators. When the tested welfare standards are implemented, the well-being of these fishes will be better and therefore the image of the fish sector in The Netherlands will improve.
