Light use effciency in vertical farms

Light is the most prominent factor affecting plant growth and it also is the main factor determining the costs of vertical farms. Therefore, there is an urgent need to optimize the efficiency of the use of light.

The aim of this project is to increase the light use efficiency of lettuce plants in vertical farms. We are investigating possibilities to optimize the light interception of plants in a vertical farm. We are studying dynamic lighting strategies in relation to optimal temperature. In this research we are conducting a number of experiments in controlled environments and will use different type of simulation models, including functional structural plant modelling.
