Biomarkers are biomolecules or properties of an (animal) product that indicate the quality of the product and / or operation of the production (animal).
Biomarkers in animal husbandry can be used for targeted animal management, predicting or determining product quality, monitoring the effects of treatments for genetic selection.
This requires appropriate biomarkers that should be routinely measured in complex matrices such as serum, meat extract and milk. Dairy farmers ask for the earliest possible detection of pregnancy in dairy cows. Now pregnancy detection is done mainly by empathy or ultrasound around day 35 after insemination. The objective of this project is to develop and improve technologies to detect, analyze and use of biomarkers in milk.
