Optimisation of the fermentation process

The Covenant ‘Clean and Thrifty Agricultural Sectors’ between the government and the agricultural sectors, must lead, among others things, to a biogas production of 1,500 million m³ in 2020 and emission reduction of at least 25% compared to 1990.

This means that a significant proportion of livestock farms will have to (co)ferment their manure to achieve this result. The financial returns of manure-digesters and co-digesters is not yet ideal. The goal of this project is to develop knowledge in order to optimize the fermentation process so that the efficiency of a biogas-installation will increase.
