Methodologies are needed for integrated and sustainable agricultural production through development.
Focus is on the role of citizens in the design process. For the case 'Cultivation off the ground', a qualitative understanding of citizen perceptions and wishes is desirable. The case develops profitable farming systems for the outdoor horticulture (vegetables, bulbs, trees, fruit, summer flowers and perennials) that meet the European regulations for water quality. Assumption is that the cropping systems in addition to a strong emission also yield benefits for entrepreneurs.
The project contributes to environmental policy tasks of the Dutch Ministry of EL&I and to an innovative and competitive agriculture. Indirectly, the lessons learned about methods of consultation with citizens can be used in other agricultural innovation processes.
