Seaweed can be an interesting new green resource for the agricultural and chemical sectors. It contains a high content of protein, compositionally similar to animal proteins, but they are produced more sustainable.
The goal of this project is to get insight into the perspectives of seaweed cultivation for the development of a sustainable and cost-effective protein production system, in which continuity in production throughout the year is possible. It will be investigated whether the production can take place at sea or that a bioreactor concept needs to be developed. The project focuses on the election of enzymes that operate at low temperatures and in salt water (to spare fresh water).
