The goal is to maintain the present expertise base and quality control routine techniques and skills. IMARES needs to maintain core competencies to deliver an internationally approved WOT programme.
The proposed project will set up a structure to control the quality of delivered work and to maintain the skills of team members. Efficiency of the surveys will be optimised, and the project will contribute to keeping IMARES in a leading position in stock assessments worldwide.
1) international workshop on (novel) survey techniques
2) taxonomy workshop
Outcomes will improve the confidence of stock estimates and will therefore improve the detection power in environmental impact studies. Furthermore, through this project IMARES will operate in a leading position in an international network, and connect research on stock assessments between countries.
Two workshops (November 2011), reports of the international workshop, and a plan (report) for improvement of the shellfish surveys (December 2011).
