Roots, Tubers and Bananas

More than 300 million people, many below the poverty line, in developing countries depend on root, tuber and banana crops for food and income. The CGIAR Research Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananas is working globally to harness the untapped potential of those crops in order to improve food security, nutrition, income, climate change resilience and gender equity of smallholders.

This year RTB enters Phase II running from 2017-2022 and is expanding its partnership with WUR. Collaboration began with seed system research. In preparation for the new phase WUR took on leadership of an RTB cluster on scaling and is moving dynamically to contribute a new innovation systems perspective to enhance the work of technology oriented clusters.
