Sequencing Biodiversity: The feasibility of assessing biodiversity by sequencing

There is little insight into the influence of the genotype of trees as 'carrier' of an ecosystem on the diversity of many dozens of species associated organisms.

This concerns e.g. insects, mycorrhizal, and trophic levels that depend on them. There is little understanding of biodiversity in the soil, and there is great need for methods that determine fast and high throughput.

In this project the potential of next generation sequencing is determined in two systems. For the community of mycorrhiza associated with trees the goal is to understand the diversity of mycorrhizal fungi in soil in interaction with those in the trees that characterize the surface ecosystem. In addition, this project focuses on identifying invasive species.
