Samenvatting
MAGICA aims to increase the practical usability of the knowledge base on climate change for use by various stakeholders, including European citizens. Therefore, our activities that have been described in this report were carried out, as part of Task 5.1, with focus on analysing the way stakeholders access and take up climate knowledge from the European climate science community. One of the specific objectives was to get a better understanding of how European citizens or groups that are located in areas vulnerable to climate change impacts are currently accessing and making use of European climate science results. These European citizens in vulnerable areas are an emerging target audience for science and we want to get a better understanding of the reputable communication channels that they use to access what they believe to be reliable information and knowledge. The results of this analysis will feed back to MAGICA and the European climate science community to improve dissemination and outreach strategies. In this way, the climate science community should increase its legitimacy and credibility with citizens, but also its accessibility through easier communication mechanisms to reach out to a larger audience. This transfer of the newly gained understanding will take place via the analysis of WP5's Deliverable 5.1 Report analyses uptake knowledge by target audience: existing and new approaches and recommendations, which will be linked with other tasks in WP4 and WP5.
