Project

ACCCU

Support the integration in Agricultural Curricula of Climate Change concerns at three Vietnamese Universities of Agriculture: Hong Duc University, Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry, and Hanoi University of Agriculture (ACCCU).

Objectives

The project aims to strengthen the education and research offer at HUA, HDU and HUAF in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector in Vietnam by ensuring a sufficient influx of highly qualified human resources with a special focus on adaptation and mitigation to climate change.

The four specific objectives (SO) of the project are:

  1. HUA, HDU and HUAF have strengthened management and organisational capacity in order to lead the revision and innovation of education and research programmes in response to climate change impacts and other relevant developments in the agricultural sector.
  2. HUA, HDU and HUAF are delivering education and training programmes on farming systems that are responsive to climate change mitigation and adaptation and labour market needs in the agricultural sector.
  3. The three universities have strengthened their capacity to develop and implement applied research programmes seeking solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation in different agro-ecological zones with a special focus on horticulture, aqua-culture and agro forestry.
  4. HUA, HDU and HUAF are cooperating in a network with each other to exchange resources and information and to improve jointly the quality and relevance of interdisciplinary education and research in the field of farming systems with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation and sustainable agricultural development.

Wageningen University leads the consortium that was requested to assist the three universities in reaching these goals. Other consortium partners are the Maastricht School of Management and Ghent University (UGent, Belgium) in Europe and in Vietnam the regional office for Asia of SNV (Netherlands Development Organisation) and Can Tho University (CTU). The Aquaculture and Fisheries group (Department Animal Science) manages the project on behalf of Wageningen University (WUR). The support of MSM focusses on SO-1. Wageningen UR provided the main inputs for SO-2 and SO-3. CTU supports the education quality management for SO-1 and SO-2, and the modelling aspects of Climate Change Adaptation. UGent focusses on the networking for SO-4 and provides an expert for aquaculture curricula development. SNV in involved in all SO’s thus ensuring that the consortium has a local back-up and disposes of human resources able to work in Vietnamese language.
