How do you do? My name is Oliver Schneider, I work for Wageningen Marine Research. While finishing my PhD at the Chair group for aquaculture and fisheries I got in contact with the Institute of Marine Resources and Ecosystem Studies. They offered me a position as a scientist dealing with all kinds of aquaculture projects.
My work is now quite different from the work I did during my PhD. The working atmosphere is truly commercial as we run 100% on soft money doing applied research. This is a real challenge in my daily work, because we have constantly to generate new projects. But if you are up to that challenge it is a real divers position. We are working always as a team, where everybody helps everybody.
At the moment I develop together with the aquaculture team different national and international projects. These projects bring me to different places in the world, where we collaborate with other researchers and institutes. This is why I write you this greeting message in the train on the way to a meeting. Often friends are asking: Where I wanna go from here, well, there a plenty of opportunities. Our group works in the border area of industry and university. On the one hand I have a development plan inside Wageningen Marine Research for my future career planning, but as well I might change in a couple of years to another Institute or to the industry, just trying to be at the right time at the right place.
