Currently (July 2015), the collection comprises 392 accessions of S. oleracea, 73 of S. turkestanica and 2 of S. tetrandra, all belonging to the primary gene pool of cultivated spinach. With respect to population type, the collection consists of 146 cultivars, 118 landraces, 72 samples of wild species and 131 accessions of unspecified population type.

The majority of accessions of cultivated spinach originate from Europe and Asia, while the accessions of S. turkestanica were collected during an expedition in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in 2008. During an expedition to Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2001, 37 samples of S. tetrandra were collected that currently are being regenerated, and will become available for distribution in the forthcoming years.
