A delegation from Ukraine, all involved in veterinary medicine, visited several Dutch organisations and companies to order to learn more about the control and eradication of animal diseases in the Netherlands. The delegation is guest of the Dutch NVWA.
On September 12, the delegation visited the High Containment Unit (HCU) at the Central Veterinary Institute (CVI), part of Wageningen UR, at the Houtribweg in Lelystad.
Diagnosis and research
This unit is built to work safe with viruses that cause infectious diseases. The special construction is meant to keep viruses inside preventing release in the environment. CVI is designated for diagnosis of notifiable diseases. Also, within the HCU research is performed on zoonotic diseases and new and improved vaccines against animal diseases.
