Do you sometimes have difficulty accurately using English grammar in your academic studies? Would you like to develop the academic vocabulary you need to perform well in all your academic activities? This course equips students to operate effectively in English during their academic journey. It reviews and develops the use of the essential aspects of English grammar and vocabulary that you need to succeed at the university level.
Classes take place on campus of Wageningen University & Research, in the Forum building.
English Skills Lab 1 is for Bachelor’s and Master’s students looking to refresh their academic grammar and vocabulary skills.
English Skills Lab 1: B1/B2
Each session will focus on specific language areas – both grammar and vocabulary – and will offer ample opportunity to practise and gain confidence in the accurate use of that language within the session. The course expects students to complete language assignments during self-study, thus freeing up more class time for questions, feedback and practice.
- Grammar covered: A review of past, present and future tenses; making comparisons; and word order in English.
- Vocabulary covered: A range of topics dealing with academic verbs, adjectives, nouns, adverbs, collocations, discussing visuals and speculating in academic English.
After completing English Lab Skills 1, you can further develop your all-round academic English in English Skills Lab 2.
This course consists of one class a week for 8 weeks. Each class is 1 hour and 45 minutes. You should expect to spend 2 to 3 hours on homework each week.
