Summary

Farm animal welfare is becoming an increasingly important policy area at both national and international levels.  This thesis presents a study of the path leading to the current governance structure to promote and protect the welfare of farm animals in and between Europe and Brazil. The objective of this study is to determine whether constraints associated with government legislation resulted in passing farm animal welfare into private hands.
