Are you a foreign employee at Wageningen University and would you like to be able to speak Dutch with your co-workers? Would you also like to know more about typical aspects of Dutch culture, both within and outside the academic world? If so, this Social Dutch course is just the thing for you.
The course is particularly suited for employees at Wageningen UR who wants to learn Dutch for social purposes.
Social Dutch I: from A0 to A1- (CEFR)
The main objective of this course is to learn to communicate in Dutch. Subjects and situations that will be dealt with include introducing yourself, exchanging personal information, addressing people, formal vs. informal use of the language, information on transportation, ordering in cafés and restaurants, buying and paying in shops, making appointments and various aspects of typical Dutch culture. Grammar is subordinated to communication skills and vocabulary acquisition. Only basic grammatical subjects will be addressed, such as the main sentence structure and the conjugation of verbs in the present and perfect tense. At the end of the course there will be a small test.
This course runs for 15 classes. There will be evening classes of 1,5 hours, twice a week. In addition to the classes, you will be spending 2 to 3 hours on homework each week, mostly over the weekend. Participants are expected to spend the required amount of time on self-study in order to attain the desired level.
