This course prepares you for the IELTS exam. Students and PhD candidates who work or study in an English-language environment might feel the need to improve their English. In addition, there are universities that require a certain IELTS exam score.
What is IELTS?
The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam is the world's leading test of academic English. It is designed to test the language skills of people who study or work in an English-language environment. IELTS is recognised by institutes of higher learning and employers in a large number of countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States.
- All skills are developed: speaking, listening, reading, and writing
- Participants are prepared specifically for the IELTS exam
- The emphasis is on academic language skills
- Attention is also given to grammar
Dates and times
This two-week summer course has an intensive course programme, with classes taking place each day from 10.30 to 12.30 hrs. In addition, course participants are expected to spend 2-4 hours per day on self-study. The course runs from Monday 2 July to Friday 13 July.

Official IELTS exam
Tests can be taken regularly in Amsterdam. See www.ielts.org for more information. The IELTS test result is valid for 2 years.
The official IELTS exam is optional. Those who take the course receive a Wageningen in'to Languages certificate of attendance, provided they have attended 80% of the classes and have received a pass mark for their writing assignments.
To make sure everyone is placed in the right course, new course participants are obliged to take the free Oxford Online Placement Test. This particular course requires a score of 60. Please note: registration cannot be confirmed without a placement test result.
