My name is Rocío and I´m a Spanish student doing my bachelor in biotechnology in the Politécnica University of Madrid. This year I have been studying in Wageningen University with the Erasmus program and for the last 4 months I´ve been doing my bachelor thesis in the nematology department. When I learned of the possibility of working with the well known C. elegans model organism I didn’t doubt it and contacted the chair group to see if they might be interested in having me work there, and I was lucky enough. During the time I spent here I have been working in a very interesting project tackling aging in the human model organism C. elegans. I´ve learned very interesting techniques like gene expression analysis through microarrays and how to use this nematode as a tool for science. In addition to all the practical experience I was able to acquire, I now feel much more confident with my oral and writing skills. All the supervision and the feedback received from my colleagues in the thesis ring has been very helpful. Besides all this academic benefits, I´ve found in the nematology department a very nice and quite international place to work in. Lots of students, both MSc and BSc, PhDs, researchers, technicians and professors make from nematology department a super nice atmosphere, with pleasant lunch and coffee breaks. Thanks for the nice time.
