Dawn Wright, the Chief Scientist of Esri Inc., gave June-14 an open guest-lecture in the course GRS-60312 Remote Sensing and GIS Integration. The lecture concentrated around Esri’s point of view concerning societal drivers of GIS science; Increasing fundamental understanding, Promoting economic vitality, Protecting life and property and Enabling stewardship of the environment. These drivers lead to the questions; How the earth works? How the Earth should look?

After the lecture one of our PhD candidates, Sarah Carter conducted an interview with Dawn Wright on the topic ‘Women in GIS’. The aim was to explore the gender balance in the field, and the role of women in GI and other under-represented sciences for women. The 15 minutes interview can be followed from the attached video.
