Since 2004 Brad has spoken in a variety of settings from Zen centers to public libraries, from vocational high schools to university auditoriums. Although Brad’s talks always focus on Buddhist teachings, the actual topics covered may range from ancient wisdoms to the finer points of contemporary pop culture, sex and God, and to issues such as politics and climate change. Lively and full of self-effacing humour, Brad prefers to respond to an audience rather than lecture them. The talks themselves tend to be more like brief introductions to free-wheeling and stimulating Q&A sessions.

In his latest book, Brad writes about Dogen, arguably Japan’s most brilliant Zen master, and how and why the things Dogen wrote about in the 13th century are still relevant (perhaps more so) to people all over the world today.

Brad will host two events in Wageningen on this day:

12.30 – 16.30: Workshop at Kenkon

(Nieuwe Kanaal 11, 6709 PA Wageningen)

Brad will give a Zen ‘workshop’ at Kenkon. This will involve several periods of sitting and walking Zen meditation, as well as two talks on Zen and opportunities to ask questions.
For this workshop we ask a small fee of €10, €7.50 for students or Kenkon members. Please sign up by sending an email to spectrum.spc@wur.nl after which you will receive payment information.

20.00 – 22.00: Talk at Impulse

(Building 115, WUR Campus, Stippeneng 2, 6708 WE Wageningen)

Brad will give a talk about how Zen relates to environmental concerns, as well as other topics relating to Zen.

For this talk the organisers ask a small donation to help pay for Brad’s travel expenses. No sign-up is required although there are limited seats, so please come early to prevent having to stand.
