Determinants of Sustainable Forest Management: The Cases of Industrial Private Forest Plantations in East Africa and Non-industrial Private Forests in Sweden

Samenvatting (Engelstalig):

In this thesis, I explored the role of ownership and forest certification in influencing sustainable forest management (SFM) of large-scale forest plantations in Mozambique and Tanzania. In addition, I assessed the role of personal values and personality traits in environmental concern of non-industrial private forest owners in Sweden. SFM aims at maximizing the economic, social and environmental values of forests. The thesis contributes to a better understanding of drivers of SFM. Such an understanding is vital in informing the design of strategies and policies to enhance SFM.
