Marlou van Campen obtained her degree in Sociology of Western Areas in 1987.
Marlou's reasons for coming to Wageningen University are similar to those of many students that come to Wageningen today; she wanted to learn more about society and make the world a little bit of a better place.She now works as a Senior Social Media Marketeer at the World Wildlife Fund. Together with the WWF’s constituency, she uses social media to set up new projects. Her latest project is geared towards recovering the coral reefs in Belize – she does this together with people that are willing to stand up for coral reefs.
Marlou does not need a lot of time to think about what she likes about her job:
“During the last couple of years, I was allowed to re-introduce beavers in the Millingerwaard - the crib of nature development in the Netherlands. In the meantime, I built up all social media channels of the WWF, together with a team. The WWF now belongs to the top 10 of social media brands in the Netherlands – with more than 200.000 friends. I am currently working on coral reef recovery through crowd funding. I have seen marketing and communications change from ‘sending to target audiences’ to ‘working together with people and communities’. That you are able to do something, and are able to make a difference, that’s just great!”
