After completing my second master thesis at Hudson River Biotechnology (in collaboration with nematology), I arranged an internship position at the Monash University (Melbourne, Australia) with the help of the Ruud Wilbers. This internship was focussed on a novel drug screening pipeline and anthelmintic drug research. Unfortunately, due to the corona virus and travel restrictions, the decision was made to cancel the internship.

Luckily, a planned project, with a related topic as the internship in Australia, was pulled forward. One week after the cancelation of the internship in Australia, the new project already started. This was very convenient, as I did not have to sit idle during the first months of the corona outbreak. Furthermore, the project was fully computational, which meant that I was not limited with access to the lab. Under the supervision of Sanja Selakovic and Arjen Schots, I worked on a mathematical model that could visualise anthelmintic drug resistance. The model was created in R and required me to learn programming, which was something I had no experience with. Although the project had a steep learning curve, I was provided with the necessary support to successfully complete it.

Whether you are looking for an internship or a thesis, the people at nematology think along in order to match you with an interesting project. Therefore, I would recommend everyone to do a thesis at nematology.
