I was asked to describe/write something about my research and my stay at the nematology department. My overall experience in the lab was fantastic.
I found that there is a good balance between serious working and the occasional chit chat in the coffee corner. Creating an atmosphere which enables people like myself to work most efficiently. My research at Nematology involved the search for genes involved in an antiviral response in C. elegans. I made a selection of genes based on them being available as C. elegans knockout mutants and possibly being related to the virus infection cycle. At the end of my thesis I found a gene, which showed to potentially be the cause of an antiviral response in C. elegans. The protein corresponding to this gene is still uncharacterized.
