My name is Maria Guadalupe Mata from Mexico and I graduated from the Master International Land and Water Management at Wageningen University.
Coming from a strong technical tradition I was challenged to switch to a socio-technical perspective, learned in the chair group of International Land and Water Management. I learned from the teachers but also from the rich exchange of opinions among people from different countries, gathered together in the classrooms. This has also helped me to deepen my understanding of international sensitivity.
Wageningen is a great place to be a student. With its modern facilities, you have everything to focus on your study and spare time activities. It was a formidable experience that improved my perspective on how to approach knowledge for a change.
Nowadays, I work for an international organisation based in Mexico: CIMMYT - the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. I work with farmers in an ambitious project that aims to sustainably modernize the agriculture by doing participatory research, technical assistance, training and building a network of local experts and institutions that have knowledge and tools to share with farmers to achieve better livelihoods.
