Maya Hernando is now a successful entrepreneur in Spain together with a friend who she met in Wageningen. Read her story here:
I arrived in Wageningen in September 2009 to attend the Master programme on Plant Science & Natural Resources Management. I've attended many interesting courses, most of them related to organic agriculture and sustainable farming. I received lectures from the most recognised professors in that field, which I already knew from their publications. I shared lectures, house and study sessions with people from many different nationalities (from Eritrea to Japan), which greatly expanded my horizons. During the second year I decided to go to New Zealand for my internship to gain field experience, and after finishing my Master's programme I started to work in Brussels as project coordinator for an NGO.
After few years of gaining working experience abroad, I decided to start a company with Irene Paredes, a friend who also studied in Wageningen. We founded the company Eurizon in September 2013 with the aim of helping companies to bring their innovative ideas and products to the market.
Irene and I always highlight the fact that Wageningen University is representable for our careers and we are convinced that our company exists thanks to the skills and knowledge we gained during our time here. We keep great memories of our time in Wageningen and we come back frequently for business and pleasure.
